Rhythm Writer

Moving songs between devices

Songs live on the device you wrote them on. To get one somewhere else, export it as a file and import that file on the other device.

Export a song

  1. Open the song.
  2. Press Export in the header, or under More on a phone.
  3. A .json file named after the song is downloaded.

Send that file however you like: email it to yourself, AirDrop it, save it to cloud storage or put it in a message.

Import a song

  1. On the other device, open Rhythm Writer.
  2. Press Import and pick the .json file.
  3. The song is added to your list. Nothing already there is replaced.

Importing the same file twice gives you two copies. Delete the one you don't want.

Sending a chart to a sub or bandmate

Export the song and send them the file. They can import it into Rhythm Writer, including the free version, and see the groove, hear it, and print it. If they'd rather just read it, send a PDF or PNG from the worksheet instead.

Keeping two computers in step

On computers with Chrome or Edge, choose a folder inside Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive or iCloud Drive on each machine. Every song is a file in that folder, so your cloud service keeps them in step. Avoid editing the same song on two machines at once; the last save wins.

Free version: imports count toward the three-song limit. With a license there's no limit.
